{Miami, Florida}
I’m constantly testing my limits as to how long I can continue working before I become extremely stressed-out and less pleasant to be around, which usually indicates I’m overdue for a vacation. When I scheduled my vacation months ago, I had a feeling I’d be overexerting myself having too large of a time gap in between breaks. Well, I definitely learned my lesson this time around (yet again). Part of self-awareness and good self-care is recognizing when you’re in need of a break. Therefore, for the next ten days, I’ll be catching up with some much needed sleep, laying out on the beach, and doing nothing work-related. Next week I plan to head to Miami, which is the city I fondly remember as providing the most fun during my medical school elective rotations. Actually, I do have one task: learning how to use Snapchat and hopefully posting snaps during my vacation (if you’re on Snapchat, add me @freudandfashion and follow me on my journey towards wellness, balance, and self-care!).
Have a wonderful weekend!

I also have a hard time being self-aware of recognizing when I need to take a break, but I have gotten better through the years 🙂 I’ve experienced major episodes of burn-out and the negative impact it had on my mental health and those around me, so I make conscious efforts to be more mindful of my stress levels and set better boundaries for self-care and burn-out prevention. Glad I’m not alone in this journey of self-awareness! Enjoy your much deserved and needed break in Miami!!! P.S: I, too, don’t know how to use snapchat! Have fun snapping and relaxing! 😉
Thank u Melina, I intend to have a great time! And thank you for sharing your experience. Yes, unfortunately it requires testing your limits a few times and experiencing burnout before change is usually made to focus on self-care, so I’m glad you’re well on your way and taking care of yourself!
We were in and out of Miami last year on a vacation to the keys. I would recommend putting down the media and picking up a pencil and paper and give a trip report when you get back. The Cuban food is to die for so food porn post are accptable. Have a blast !
Hey Bob, I intend to do both actually (social media + blogging/writing)! And yes, I love the cuban food there. I worked at a hospital in Miami during med school and loved having cafe cubano, cuban sandwiches, and plantains on a regular basis!
Yep. I know first hand exactly what you are talking about. 🙂 I was 29 yrs old when this life issue finally came to a head in a big way.
Hi DM. If you wrote a blogpost on this experience, would love to read about it 🙂
Let me go digging in my archives. I think there are a couple.
Here are two : https://ialsoliveonafarm.wordpress.com/2014/04/28/keeping-order-in-my-private-world/ and also this one: https://ialsoliveonafarm.wordpress.com/2013/04/14/stepping-off-the-hampster-wheel/
Enjoy your R & R! 🙂
Thanks Jewels, I certainly will! 🙂
I have been to Miami several times for conventions and only got to minimally explore but had so much fun (only bad thing I can say is I HATE the humidity due to my AI disease). You should visit the new SLS hotel – they have a great Asian Fusion restaurant (get the salty donuts for desert :). I just like hanging out at the swanky pools and having a drink or two. That way I can be umbrella covered…photosensitive. So you can see why Paris, or a NYC shopping trip are my vacations 🙂 Enjoy.
i love to do the same (laying out in swanky pools and grabbing a drink), but yes the humidity can be intolerable. I can definitely see your preference for NYC, though Paris I’ve never been but it’s on my list of places to visit! I’ve been to the SLS in Beverly hills several times, but never the one here since it opened…will need to check it out! Thanks for the suggestion! 🙂
Oh neat, I live here in Miami and work here. I hope you’re feeling relaxed and enjoying your vacation! Reflecting on how far you’ve come is always great. I was going to suggest walking around south beach/lincoln road but you’ve lived here before and probably know all that. 🙂
Hi nathan! Are u on snapchat?? I’ll add u (Unless it’s a personal acct 😉). What part of Miami do u live? I used to work at a hospital by little Havana (can’t even recall the name at the moment) & absolutely loved it here!
